Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00pm Friday December 8, 2017 at Pulliam Funeral Home Oblong, IL. Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery.

Alicia Deane Newman-Lane, 85, of Oblong,IL passed away on Tuesday December 5, 2017 at Lakeland Health Care Center in Effingham, IL.

Alicia was born in Robinson, IL on October 7, 1932 to George Emerson Ready and Marian Geraldine (Tharp) Ready. On March 2, 1951 she married John D. Newman, who preceded her in death on October 19, 1993. On June 22, 1996 she married James W. Lane Sr., who preceded her in death on March 5, 2006. She was a member of the Yale Church of Christ, the Oblong 20th Century Club from 1984 to 2005, and Oblong friends of the library since 2004. She attended New Hebron School, Taylor School and graduated from Robinson Township High School in 1949. In 1950 she graduated from Varner Beauty School. Alicia had worked in a Robinson Beauty Shop and restaurant, dry cleaning shops in California and Oklahoma, and in offices in Palestine and Mt. Carmel before retiring as Real Estate Associate with Boyd Real Estate in 1979. She enjoyed meeting new people, traveling, music, sewing and flowers, especially roses.

She is survived by a step-son James W. Lane Jr. and wife Marla, Robinson, IL, step-daughter Martha “Martie” Lane Lathrop, Naples, FL; nephew Robert Ready Jr. and wife Nikki, New Albany, IN; Mary White, Shepherdsville, KY; great-nieces Erica and Diana Ready, New Albany, IN and great-nephew Brian Simmons, Shepherdsville, KY; and special friends, Kelly and Crystal Davis, Oblong, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one sister Gloria Wiseman; two half-brothers George Ready and Robert Ready Sr.; one half sister Maxine Sauer and three cousins Mary Alice Davis, Carl Robinson and Mrs. Pete (Pat) Mitchell.
